Dr. Scheckter graduated from the Tuskeegee University School of Veterinary Medicine with High Honors in 1988. As one of the founding doctors, he has been with Companion Animal Hospital since we started in 1995 and recently retired. You will still see him at the practice on occasion filling in for our other doctors. Dr. Scheckter enjoys surgical cases and in making visits by our clients informative and personal. Dr. Scheckter grew up in southern New Jersey and went to Grinnell College in Iowa. Prior to veterinary school, he also attended West Virginia University and did graduate work at Florida State University and the University of Iowa. Dr. Scheckter currently lives on a farm with his wife, Betsy, a speech pathologist, and they have three grown daughters living across the country. In addition to the usual pets, the farm supports a flock of sheep-mostly kept for fun. Outside the clinic, Dr. Scheckter’s skills include general construction, plumbing and electrical wiring. He enjoys crafting wooden furniture and stained glass windows in his shop. In his spare time, Dr. Scheckter is building a 1931 Model A street rod.
